Introducing, Betty Buttercream!

Hello gorgeous, I’m Betty Buttercream, and it is such a pleasure to meet you! I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to invite you to follow along as I share small glimpses into my delightfully messy, sometimes chaotic, beautiful life.

I’ll be the first to admit that life isn’t always smooth as butter. Navigating through the waves of change can be hard. Luckily, we can always find beauty in the storm.

From the outside looking in, I may look sweet, stylish, and put together, but just you wait. As you get to know me, and the many dimensions of my life, you’ll learn that I’m winging it just like everyone else. I’m a work in progress, and an absolute masterpiece all intertwined simultaneously, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Trust me, I get that as women we face a lot of impossible expectations and mixed messages when it comes to how we should look, act and behave. Let’s let that go. Life is better when you’re having fun. So if you’re ready to stop taking yourself so seriously, let go of guilt and worry, and laugh at the obstacles along the way, join the club!

I can make you one promise and one promise alone: I will always keep it real. My hope is that you can find pieces of my story that relate to your own. Welcome to Life with Betty!

Resetting Your Happiness

In this super busy life that we all live it is so easy to forget why we do what we do. Recently, we had a wonderful two day trip to Fernie, BC planned with some lovely friends. Their gorgeous home in the mountains was just what we needed to recharge!

Days filled with skiing, hot chocolates, sledding and warm, cozy fires were just what the doctor ordered! I love this business so much, and we really do eat, breathe and sleep Buttercream (sounds delicious right?) but once in a while, it is so important to take a small step back.

Our short getaway became a little bit of an unexpected “forced holiday.” We experienced a heavy snowstorm, and the highways became closed in both directions, so we were really, truly stuck. We decided to make this a great adventure and get some awesome food, play some great games and watch movies. In a world of constant stimulation, this was one of the most amazing things that could have happened to us. If I have learned anything from this, it is that truly unplugging and relaxing/refocusing is so amazing and your feelings of why you do what you do will come back to you quickly. This business is so incredible that waking up in the morning to work is a pleasure, not a chore but resetting my focus for a few days came at a great time!

Our two day holiday turned into six days and five snowy nights and getting back home was lovely, but there is a certain charm of mountains, a wood fire and what feels like never ending snow.

My advice to you is take a break and never let anything stop you from doing what makes your heart happy. Whether that is in your work, in your family life, in your time off, or your side hustle, when you find it you will know it. Keep following those dreams, you won’t be sorry!

Fashion Rules Worth Breaking

It’s time we rethink our position on fashion rules. From a young age, women are pressured to look a certain way, act a certain way, and be a certain way. Well, ladies, I don’t know about you, but we are ready to break free from the rulebooks and expectations. Going with what is ‘in-style’ and ‘most flattering’ is so 2016. Let’s take back our power and bust some fashion myths.

Fashion Rule Worth Breaking #1: Dress for Your Body Type

First of all, our bodies are unique and beautiful in every way. Dressing for your body shape is code for dressing in a way that makes you appear thinner, taller, and curvier. Or whatever is considered ‘ideal’ at the time. For too long, we’ve been put in boxes and judged ourselves based on someone else’s definition of normal and beautiful. Every woman deserves to feel comfortable and confident in her clothing.

Fashion Rule Worth Breaking #2: Dress for Your Age

There really is no age appropriate wear. Don’t feel as though you need to monitor your appearance, or make decisions about your style based on the decade you were born in. Dress for comfort, confidence, and personal style.

Fashion Rule Worth Breaking #3: You Can’t Wear That if You Are A Mom

Just because you’re a mom, doesn’t mean you have to start pushing your favourite clothing to the back of your closet. While some items may be more challenging to wear as a mom (think anything strapless while you have a little one yanking at your top, for example), you don’t have to throw in the towel on your self-expression and limit yourself to “mommy clothes.”

That’s all we have for today, but there are plenty more fashion rules worth breaking (like all of them, for example). When it comes to fashion, wear whatever makes you feel happy, confident, comfortable and free.
